Review: 2025 AUDI RS7

Published: Aug 16, 2025 11:24 AM

Audi’s big, bad hatch-backed bruiser is back for 2025, and it lands on Australian asphalt with even more swagger. Officially called the 2025 AUDI RS7 Sportback Performance, it keeps the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 but now pushes out a thumping 463 kW (630 hp) and 850 Nm, enough to flick the 2-tonne fastback to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Yet what really grabs you is how the RS7 mixes board-room polish with back-road mongrel; one moment you are wafting in ventilated Valcona leather, the next you are laughing at the overrun crackles echoing off gum trees.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Explosive 2025 Audi RS7 performance without punishing ride quality
  • Muscular yet restrained styling, no need for boy-racer wings
  • Cabin tech finally feels next-gen rather than “facelift”

Cons

  • Thirsty, figure on about 14 L/100 km combined in real life
  • No standalone ANCAP rating (A7 donor scored five stars pre-2025)
  • Optional carbon-ceramics will nick almost $10,000 from your holiday fund

How Much Does It Cost?

Australia gets two flavours, RS7 Sportback and RS7 Sportback Performance, and both nudge the quarter-million mark at $254,715-$257,400 before on-roads. Add paint, carbon bits and the must-have Bang & Olufsen 3D Advanced sound system and you will stroll past $300,000 on the road. Still, the sticker undercuts the new plug-in-hybrid BMW M5 (from $259,900) and looks a bargain beside the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door at roughly $373,000.

Features and Benefits

Standard kit is unapologetically generous: matrix LED headlights that dip around traffic, 21-inch alloys hiding 10-piston calipers, RS sport air suspension with predictive road scanning, and the latest 2025 Audi RS7 technology features, twin 10.1-inch haptic touch screens plus a 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit that now shows tyre temperature. Option packs bring Dynamic Ride Control, a carbon roof, and that thunderous variable RS exhaust. Critically, the MHEV 48-volt system recoups up to 12 kW during coasting, so even your eco-warrior neighbour cannot scowl too hard.

Safety

While the RS7 itself remains unrated, its A7 skeleton earned a 5-star ANCAP score thanks to eight airbags, AEB with cyclist detection, and lane-keep assist. Audi layers on adaptive cruise with turn-assist, a night-vision camera, and cross-traffic alerts that light up the door LEDs if a cyclist is about to get doored. The new RS-specific front diff cooler means repeated hard braking on track days no longer nudges temperatures into the scary red.

Running Costs

No one buys an RS badge for penny-pinching, yet Audi softens the blow with a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and the $4,140 Genuine Care five-year/75,000 km service plan. Expect fuel bills that average 17 mpg (14 L/100 km) unless you drive like your gran. Tyres? The 285/30 R22 Pirelli P Zeros retail near $950 each, so start a swear jar now.

Comparison To Its Competitors

  • BMW M5: Plug-in hybrid punch (535 kW/1000 Nm) and similar price, but +200 kg heavier and less soulful soundtrack.
  • Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S: 470 kW V8 and raucous drift mode, though thirstier and lacks the RS7’s understated Q-car vibe.
  • Porsche Panamera Turbo S: Sharper chassis and class-leading infotainment, yet costs the sort of money that buys a beach shack in Byron.

Against that trio the RS7 splits the difference, more refined than the AMG, cheekier than the Porsche, and far simpler to live with than the hybrid BMW.

Conclusion

The 2025 Audi RS7 is the automotive equivalent of a tuxedo with running shoes: formal enough for a client dinner, loose enough for a back-road sprint. It delivers outrageous 2025 Audi RS7 horsepower plus real-world usability, and its subtle shape still turns heads without screaming for attention. Fuel economy is its Achilles heel, but if you are shopping super sedans, you already knew that.

Rating: 9/10

Audi’s latest missile nails the brief: speed, tech and daily civility in one package. A touch more steering feel and a proper local safety rating would make it perfect.
